Policies

  • After Hours Policy

When our office is closed and you have an urgent issue that cannot wait until morning, you can call our office for access to our answering service. Your call will either be returned by the doctor on call or our nurse triage service. It is staffed by pediatric nurses who have been trained in the use of the standard telephone guidelines developed by Dr. Barton Schmitt and Dr. David Thompson. If your call is of an urgent nature, the physician on-call will be contacted.

IF YOU HAVE A LIFE-THREATENING EMERGENCY, CALL 911.

  • Appointments Request Policy

Please schedule well visits in advance. We offer same day illness visits for sick or injured children. We do not accept walk-ins ~ all visits are by appointment only. This policy includes siblings of scheduled children; if you suspect that more than one of your children will need to be seen, please call ahead so that we can schedule your children accordingly. We do not accept walk-ins as all visits are by appointment only.

  • Initial Visit Policy

We require an up-to-date immunization record before we schedule your first visit. A summary of your child’s current medical history and medications is also necessary. If you have health insurance for your visit, we require verification of coverage before the appointment or we can discuss the option to obtain a valid credit card for payment.

  • Newborn Visit Policy

Newborns must be added to your insurance policy immediately. Most insurance plans have a 30-day grace period for newborns to be added. Once the grace period has expired, if the baby has not been added, the parent will be responsible for charges incurred. Please remember to bring your insurance and copay to your first visit.

  • Missed Visit Policy

If you are unable to keep an appointment, whether in person or by Telemedicine, please notify us 24 hours in advance by calling the office at 585-385-1710.

    • A $50 fee will be assessed to your account for any well visit or telemedicine visit that has not been canceled in advance.
    • Siblings scheduled together who miss or cancel appointments with less than 24 hours’ notice will no longer be scheduled together.
    • If you miss 3 appointments without adequate notice, we will reluctantly ask you to choose another doctor’s office for your child’s care.
    • If a new patient misses an initial visit without 24 hours advance notice, the appointment will not be rescheduled, nor will the patient be admitted to the practice.
