Sick Child Visits

At Pittsford Pediatrics, we are here to meet your needs for all illnesses, injuries, or other medical concerns.

Most often, your visit will be with your primary physician. In the event that your doctor is not available, one of our other board certified pediatricians will be happy to address all your concerns.

You may know that one of the founding principles of our practice is the concept of “continuity” with our patients – that the care you receive is personalized, taking into account your medical history and your health goals and caring for your child from crib to college years. In recent years, the value of continuity has been proven time and again by hard evidence: care received by your primary physician in your medical home is the safest, most efficient, and most effective care.

We have noticed a trend that more and more families are deciding to opt for immediate or urgent care visits for problems such as sore throats, ear aches, or injuries. Unfortunately, we don’t always receive timely or accurate documentation of your care received elsewhere, and treatments provided aren’t always in line with the up-to-date pediatric standards supported by the AAP and our physicians. In addition, you can expect out of pocket costs at these alternate providers to be higher than what you would pay for a similar service in our office.

We appreciate your need for convenient care – we can almost always accommodate a same day sick visit, and we have select walk in services available. We are able to suture, staple and glue lacerations in select cases, and can treat most moderate injuries. Our phone triage service (and the doctor on call) are available 24 hours a day to help you either keep your child comfortable until he or she can be seen the following day, or advise you the best place to seek immediate care, whether that is one of our local Emergency Departments or an after hours service. Our doctor on call can often even accommodate Sunday morning urgent visits.

When you see your primary physician for urgent concerns, you help maintain the continuity that has been the cornerstone of our practice, and we can continue providing excellent care for your growing family.
